2022.08.01 HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE “A WORK OF ARC”
The CREATION SPACE at ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA presents a special installation “A WORK OF ARC” from HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE.
The HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE AUTUMN WINTER 2022/23 COLLECTION looks at a tent, as a structure consisting of fabric and a frame, and adapts elements of its construction for clothing-design. The way it engages in making folds and creases like drawing arcs on a pleated canvas gives rise to a new exploration of three-dimensional forms.
When the collection was announced in January this year, a presentation was held in Paris focusing on the creation of the collection and its production background.
Partially reorganizing the contents of the presentation in Paris, this exhibition presents the design team's research into tent materials and structure, and how it was expressed in pleated fabric, from the source of the idea to the production site. We will guide you through the process.
Tents, which were also used as dwellings in the olden days, have undergone various changes with the times and their uses. What the design team focused on this time was the curvilinear structure, such as the curved framework and the bending that occurs when the fabric is stretched. We will show behind-the-scenes footage of the process of actually building a tent and researching its form and details, as well as a video showing the process of incorporating these elements into the clothes. In addition, we will also have an exhibition where you can compare the fabric before pleating and the clothes that have actually taken shape after processing.
Please take a look at the unchanging attitude of manufacturing based on pleat processing technology and the efforts to create new forms.
