Satoshi Kondo Designs Costumes for Némo Flouret’s Contemporary Dance Piece, “Derniers Feux”

Satoshi Kondo, designer of the ISSEY MIYAKE women’s collection, has designed the costumes for Derniers Feux, a contemporary dance piece created by French dancer and choreographer Némo Flouret—a collaboration that integrates expressive garments with choreography and scenography. Since its premiere at the 79th Festival d’Avignon* in July 2025, Derniers Feux has traveled internationally, with its most recent performances that took place at the Grand Palais in Paris from June 12 to 14.

As an admirer of Flouret’s work, Kondo has previously collaborated with him on two ISSEY MIYAKE women’s shows in Paris: first for the Spring Summer 2024 season, and again for Autumn Winter 2025/26. On both occasions, Flouret worked with fellow performers to create dynamic performances with a finesse that captured the spirit of each collection’s theme and elevated the conventional runway experience.

Flouret’s work is grounded in rigorous research on physicality—rendered in a poetry of movement that transitions between synchronized and de-synchronized motion. His process-driven approach naturally lends itself to site-specific (in situ) performances, where the dance engages the audience to evoke a feeling of sensuousness.

Flouret’s in-depth engagement with the human body has long inspired Kondo, resonating with his practice of design and making and the philosophy of the ISSEY MIYAKE women’s collection. This shared creative synergy across disciplines of performing arts and clothing design naturally brought the two together for this costume project.

Drawing on the technologies and craftsmanship developed for the ISSEY MIYAKE women’s collection, Kondo designed original costumes for all eleven performers, including Flouret, featuring a mix of textures and versatile styles in a vibrant color palette that evolve alongside the dynamic progression of the choreography.

Derniers Feux is a reverie on the ephemeral and the immaterial: a show about the creation of a show, a nascent utopia carried by ten performers trying to give shape together to a world after the world. Confronting the fear of danger, the emotion and joy that would come from the “second of eternity” of a final fireworks display, they dance, play music, assemble and disassemble space, and scenography.

In a perpetual movement where dance becomes a mode of existence, they are in turn technicians, performers, spectators, linking images that appear and disappear, giving life to dreams as much as nightmares facing the void thanks to the imaginary. To the sound of trumpets, drums and fragmented melodies, their exhilarating energy transforms the present as if each moment were, indefinitely, the last.

Dancer and choreographer trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur of Paris and P.A.R.T.S., Némo Flouret works at the crossroads of disciplines, gathering groups of artists together in a multiplicity of spaces. From post-industrial relics with 900 Something Days Spent in the XXth Century (2021) to outdoor and theater stage with the group work Derniers Feux (2025) to Antti Lovag’s utopian architecture with Dance Parc (2024) or Forêt (2022), a performance co-created with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker as part of the Festival d’Automne for the Denon wing of the Musée du Louvre, Flouret’s work questions how people and space converse through choreography and performance.
