A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE will release new items from the TYPE-XII Tomokazu Matsuyama project, which we are working on with Tomokazu Matsuyama, a New York-based contemporary artist who captivates the world. This project combines A-POC ABLE’s design process and Matsuyama’s multifaceted images in a single piece of cloth, demonstrating new art and design possibilities.

The project started from the creation of limited-edition items for Matsuyama’s first major solo exhibition in Tokyo, “Matsuyama Tomokazu: FIRST LAST,” which was held in Azabudai Hills Gallery in spring 2025. The items created a huge stir, and we are now announcing the release of new coats that reconstruct Matsuyama’s work as “a single piece of cloth,” offering more people the special experience of wearing works of art.

The base fabric, vividly printed in Kyoto, features a triangular pattern applied with a special technique. This unique texture changes its expression three-dimensionally in response to the body’s movements, offering a fresh source of inspiration for everyday life.

Special exhibition to be held in ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK
To mark the launch of the project, the special exhibition “TYPE-XII Tomokazu Matsuyama project” will be held in ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK and its attached gallery space “MADO” from Thursday, July 9 to Monday, August 31.
The exhibition will express horses and riders, which Matsuyama has developed for many years as a motif in his works, in a new form created with the unique 3D printing technology also used for A-POC ABLE’s mannequins. It will also display paintings related to this project. Inside, the space will feature installations in which A-POC ABLE’s multicolored fabric, the canvas for Matsuyama’s reconstructed works, is dynamically suspended from the ceiling, enabling visitors to experience the project’s world view.
T-shirts that incorporate prints of all seven of Matsuyama’s works on A-POC’s non-sewn knits will be sold only at ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK.
