A special exhibition, “Amid Impasto of Colors”, is being held at Gallery 3 of 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT from Saturday, March 14 through Sunday, April 12.

The cities and towns we live in are full of colors. They show the character of the land, reflect the living environment, and represent the day-to-day minutiae of the people.

The HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Spring Summer 2026 collection is inspired by colors found in everyday life, developed from fieldwork in which the design team traveled throughout Italy gathering colors firsthand with a paintbrush. The colors—buildings that have aged over time with patina, vegetables found at a local market, and the ever-changing surface of the sea—speak of Italy’s natural and cultural landscapes with vibrancy, and were brought to life in the form of everyday clothing through the brand’s original craft and technology of pleating.

This exhibition presents the colors gathered in Italy, featuring pleated fabrics dyed in a selection of 44 colors out of more than 200 samples gathered, alongside studio studies from the team’s research and development. The process of mixing paints to match the desired colors—with layers of brushstrokes—conveys the ambience of Italian cities and the flow of time. The colors gathered this way are not merely a visual element, but rather an accumulation of specific scenes and memories.

*In conjunction with this exhibition, a special series, COLORS OF ITALY is available at HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE / ROPPONGI (2F Galleria Tokyo Midtown), featuring the selected 44 colors, for three days during the exhibition period: Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29.
