A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE is pleased to announce the TYPE-XV SOAR NY project in collaboration with SOAR NY, a global design studio led by Masaki Hanahara, a graphic designer and creative director based in New York.
This project will explore new perspectives of beauty in the modern age, unbound by conventional ideas, through a fusion of A-POC ABLE’s original clothes-making techniques and SOAR NY’s graphic design.
The first phase will introduce two series created through collaboration with SOAR NY.

TYPE-XV 001

SOAR NY has created original motifs with vivid color and playful typography from a meticulous combination of the original Baked Stretch* pleats technique and graphic design. Three different graphics feature as designs for dresses and pants. The clothing pattern lines are designed on boards in advance using print processes, achieving visually and structurally cohesive expression by further layering the pleated shapes and color pattern designs. With the Baked Stretch technique, where the fabric is printed with special paste and inflated using heat, the flat graphics emerge in three dimensions and the pleats themselves are utilized as part of the graphics. When worn, the raised form and patterns don’t create fixed beauty, but change their look in accordance with the body’s movement. This suggests new possibilities for beauty found in movement.

Dynamic graphics are printed on non-sewn knits that embody A-POC. This is a series of T-shirts that highlight the powerful contemporary patterns unique to SOAR NY.
