A special exhibition, “GOOD PRINTER”, is being held at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3 from Saturday, August 9 through Thursday, August 28.

21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3 is transforming into a print factory.

The print factory is being launched by GOOD GOODS ISSEY MIYAKE, the accessories brand that explores “good things” and proposes playful, imaginative products. The printing equipment is developed by nomena, a group of engineers who consistently take on the challenge of pioneering new forms of manufacturing.

The word “print” not only refers to design or printing, but also includes the act of leaving a trace or mark on something. For example, patterns made with your finger on a fogged-up window, or the unexpected tracks left by bicycle tires could be considered a print. This exhibition is a factory where such moments of coincidence and creativity come together to produce captivating prints.

Inside the space will be the “GOOD PRINTER,” an instrument that continuously prints on fabric using unique technology. Visitors can interact with the operating machine, and through their curiosity, or even unconscious movements, create recorded printed patterns, which constantly shift and overlap. Unlike a regular factory, no same pattern will ever be printed twice. The fabric will be dried on-site and later used in future products.

What exactly is a “good thing”? Stepping into this factory and experiencing its process firsthand might change how you see objects or the process of creation. This exhibition invites you to explore and savor those questions and moments of surprise with your own hands.
