The exhibition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the opening of Cartier's first boutique in Japan, highlighting the relationships between Cartier and Japan. Held at the symmetrically-structured Tokyo National Museum, Hyokeikan, the right wing contains the Cartier jewelry collection; the left, works from 15 Japanese artists with ties to Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain.

Issey Miyake had a longstanding relationship with Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain. In 1998, he was invited to present the "ISSEY MIYAKE: Making Things" exhibition at the foundation in Paris. In 2000, he demonstrated A-POC including "Dots Obsession," a collaboration with Yayoi Kusama, at the foundation. In 2014, he participated in the "Mémoires Vives" exhibition to celebrate the foundation's 30th anniversary.

Three works from the 1998 exhibition are on display. A film of Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain activities, including the exhibitions described above, are also screened.
