Story 7: A Companion for Parties
Changing jobs brought with it more invitations to gatherings.
Calling them parties makes them sound glamorous,
But the main purpose is really networking with business contacts.
I make my way around the room, introducing myself and exchanging business cards.
With people from work watching, I can't exactly relax and let loose.
Even so, there's something special about getting to visit restaurants
And hotels I'd never normally go to.
There's no need for full formal attire,
But dressing for the occasion gives me the chance to put together a look
That's a little different from my everyday style — and that part is fun.
On these occasions, I head out with my NOTE-A-NOTE.
I slip my credit card, just enough cash,
And a set of business cards into the expanding pocket,
And tuck in a small ballpoint pen
So I can quickly take notes
If an important business conversation comes up.
This is my party bag.
When I'm holding my NOTE-A-NOTE,
I somehow feel a little more polished than usual —
And oddly more capable with it.
