Special Exhibition “Solid Objectives Idenburg Liu”

The MADO gallery at ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK is pleased to present an installation by Solid Objectives Idenburg Liu (SO–IL). On view in the MADO gallery at 45 Madison Avenue through Monday, October 26, the exhibition features SO–IL’s work in furniture, architecture, and material innovation.

Featured throughout the store will be a selection of SO–IL’s Frame Series furniture. Made of bent steel pipe and metal mesh, this series of furniture eclipses functional design and invites the question “how to use?”. The materiality and form of each individual piece explore notions of flexibility and tension. As one sits down the metal mesh tightens, making you aware someone has joined. The Frames Series furniture are social structures, not so much conventional objects but drawings in space and experiments in collectivity.

Installed in the MADO gallery is an immersive video essay featuring numerous marquee projects designed by SO–IL including Kukje Gallery, Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Amant, Common Thread, and Necto among others. Close-up shots explore the texture and material innovation present in these built projects.

Founded in 2008 by Jing Liu and Florian Idenburg, SO–IL is a globally recognized architecture practice specializing in projects that range from arts and cultural institutions to multifamily housing. Most recently, SO–IL completed the design of the new ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK flagship that opened in May 2026.
