2022.06.30 “YUMA KANO”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “YUMA KANO.”
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE is a brand that has inherited and furthered the development of A-POC, which uses new perspectives to design and make clothes, from their creation from a single thread until the point at which they are worn. The brand, which creates a variety of uses or “ABLE’s,” by engaging with different professions and industries, will hold the exhibition “YUMA KANO.” The exhibition will focus on the manufacturing undertaken by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE with designer, Yuma Kano.
Rust is the phenomenon that occurs due to the corrosion of metal surfaces caused by oxidation and deoxidation involving oxygen and moisture. Focusing on rust, which has been regarded as undesirable throughout the long history of manufacturing, Kano has created “Rust Harvest,” a work in which the rust from rusty metal plates is transferred onto acrylic resin.
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE has designed jeans inspired by this work. The exhibition will introduce the manufacturing process of weaving rust onto fabrics, and will present videos of Mr. Kano’s production process, and the actual “harvested” rust transferred onto acrylic resin.
Rust patterns, which are often overlooked, are actually very beautiful and feature complex mixtures of various colors. The rich timeline of this fluctuating natural phenomenon can be seen when these rust patterns are woven onto the jeans.
