The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “ELLIPSE.”

“The hour hand and the minute hand moving in circles one tick after another.
The elliptical case softly envelops the minute movement.”

“ELLIPSE,” created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ISSEY MIYAKE WATCH, is a new timepiece that conveys the warmth and tenderness of the very shape.

This exhibition introduces the fascination “ELLIPSE” holds, starting with an interview video with product designer Naoto Fukasawa, to “whom looking for interesting shapes everyday has become a habit, revealing” how he had arrived at the idea of designing an “ellipse-shaped watch” and how that idea was realized.

Mr. Fukasawa described his design for ISSEY MIYAKE WATCH as “has an ordinary look but at the same time avant-garde.” An ellipse is elegant and original. Its delicate, full-rounded shape also suggests a sense of extension as something that anticipates the future, to be experienced here at KURA gallery, the place for savoring the passing time.
