2020.01.06 | ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO | KURA “IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE.”
Introducing the 5th collection of the “IKKO TANAKA ISSEY MIYAKE” series, which expresses the poster works of graphic designer Ikko Tanaka through clothes and accessories. This series was started in 2016 out of respect for Mr. Tanaka's work and gratitude for being given so much inspiration, and has since worked on various works by Mr. Tanaka. The work I chose this time was exhibited at the solo exhibition “Ikko Tanaka Graphic Art Botanical Garden” held in 1990. The composition of linear silhouettes and color planes was created by a collage of colored paper. Motifs reminiscent of the Rimpa school of painting, such as lilies and irises, and an imaginary plant named shitadashisou are depicted sharply and humorously. By reflecting these motifs and colors on materials such as pleats and cotton, we aim to reproduce the free and joyful worldview of the work and create something that the wearer and wearer can see lively. In this exhibition, you can see posters by Mr. Ikko Tanaka as well as accessories with these themes.
