At ISSEY MIYAKE MEN, we are learning from the spirit of the craftsmen who have inherited these traditional techniques of Sankechi, and we are taking on the challenge of making clothes with the aim of making each dyeing a form that fits in with modern life. .
The focus of this exhibition is batik dyeing. We introduce the skills of craftsmen who have been handed down in the land of Kyoto.
Batik is a technique in which the surface of the fabric is coated with wax and dipped in the dye when it hardens. Based on their many years of experience, craftsmen finely adjust the temperature and thickness of the wax according to the material of the fabric and the temperature of the day, and manipulate the dyeing.
We will show you the wax used in dyeing, the fabric covered with wax, and videos of the manufacturing process to introduce the process of dyeing the fabric.
