2024.09.24 Requiem: Cats, Portraits, and Yokoo Tadanori
Tadanori Yokoo has encountered numerous people during his career as an artist, and like his own works, his friendships span genres. This exhibition puts the spotlight on the his reminisces of the intimate friends, family and his beloved cat that have already departed, illustrating their relationships with portraits by Yokoo and documentary materials.
One of the close friends featured in the exhibition is Issey Miyake. Miyake’s deep and abiding friendship with Yokoo began in the 1970s, and it blossomed when Yokoo was commissioned to design the invitation for the ISSEY MIYAKE Autumn-Winter 1977 Collection. Yokoo continues to design the invitations to this day. The collection invitations and the its original drawings on which they were based are the centerpiece of the display.
Among the exhibited works, we provided an invitation for the Autumn-Winter 2019 Collection and a “TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE” jacket that was subsequently created using the invitation as a motif.
The “TADANORI YOKOO ISSEY MIYAKE” project that began in 2020 as a collaboration with Yokoo restructures his works within “a piece of cloth.” It is an exploration of the further possibilities for A-POC.
