SPECIAL PROJECTS
This creative session between HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE and designer/artist, Ronan Bouroullec, is a project where the brand’s design team engages in working with his drawings, not just as a portfolio of work to appreciate as art, but more so as an extensive body of diverse materials to dive into and play freely with. Bouroullec’s clear understanding of the brand’s design approach and creative process, paired with many meaningful exchanges with him, have inspired this collection.
Ronan Bouroullec
Born in 1971 in Quimper (Brittany), Ronan Bouroullec is a French designer whose design practice has been established for more than two decades. His work includes designing the interior of the A-POC store (an ISSEY MIYAKE brand named after the eponymous design and manufacturing system) with his brother in Paris in 2000. He has collaborated with international design companies to design furniture, lighting, urban spaces, architecture, and installations, many of which are recognized and collected by museums and design institutes worldwide. Besides Ronan Bouroullec’s practice as a designer, drawing is a part of his daily routine and what inspires his design practice. His drawings not only are sought after by art collectors and galleries alike, but also have been presented and collected by museums and art foundations around the world.
Ronan Bouroullec:
On the Wilds of Creativity
In this creative session, the brand’s design team immersed itself in the world of Bouroullec’s drawings where it explored elements of color, form, and the movement found in his pen strokes, integrating them into clothes-making. The process of treating Bouroullec’s work—transitioning from observation to active engagement—fosters a dialogue between the drawings and the clothing, suggesting a new form of creative group participation. A video features on the dialogue between Bouroullec’s work and the making process of the garments, to explore the process of this creative session.
An exhibition will be held at the ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445|CUBE and ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA|CREATION SPACE. Please visit here for more information.here.
