TYPE-VI Sohei Nishino project
The TYPE-VI Sohei Nishino project, a project I worked on with photographer Sohei Nishino.
Mr. Nishino finds inspiration for his works through personal experiences gained through walks and travel. A-POC ABLE uses its original sophisticated jacquard weaving technique to reconstruct two of his works as clothing – Tokyo 2014 and Kyoto, from his representative Diorama Map series.
Mr. Nishino created the Diorama Map series by walking around different cities, photographing various subjects, and pasting all of the photos together onto canvas in accordance with a map of the city. By reconstructing his memories in this way, he creates an image of the “present” as glimpsed through these cityscapes. By viewing fixed points of the same city over a certain period of time in terms of “replication,” these works are also an attempt to visualize the structural changes in a city, as well as changes in how Mr. Nishino himself responds to and communicates with the cityscape. (His piece, Tokyo was first created in 2004 and then recreated in 2014.) The works created in this way represent traces of memories and expressions of awareness of “how one person saw and walked through a city.” At the same time, they present an image of cities as the epitome of the force of energy in life.
TYPE-VI
From Mr. Nishino’s work “Diorama Map” series, a reversible stainless collar coat with “Tokyo 2014” woven in, 5-pocket pants with “Kyoto” woven in, and a bucket hat. Highly breathable paper threads are used for the weft threads, making it light and comfortable to wear. By wearing it, you can think about the city that Mr. Nishino captured and discover your own city.
From Sohei Nishino
I am very honored to be invited to a new project by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE.
From the early stages, I was very interested in how my photographic works were born as clothes.
There were many surprises in the process of weaving together each and every thought with the team members, and at the same time, I was able to rediscover my own work from a new angle.
I would be happy if you could enjoy the accumulation of various memories in one piece of cloth.
