ENGRAVE

These pants are from a series characterized by their unique three-dimensional look created using a jacquard loom to weave multicolored threads. They draw inspiration from ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda’s work “Waved Patterns,” featuring impressive wave-like carved patterns that are seamlessly integrated into the form. To express these carvings in textile form—which appear naturally creased yet are meticulously calculated—stretch thread is blended into the weft, and different weaving structures are used so that the sides rise vertically at right angles. The fabric is also heat-shrunk to create a three-dimensional look and edges reminiscent of the carved patterns. When the zipper is fully opened, the pattern of the carvings seen in the “Waved Patterns” dish from a top-down view is revealed.
