TYPE-Ⅰ

“TYPE-I” is the first project created by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE from the brand’s interdisciplinary and cross-industrial interactions.

Using a new material called Triporous™, which is made from rice husks and developed by Sony Group Corporation, a special black color that was not possible to achieve through conventional dying techniques was created.
This special color, created by mixing Triporous into the thread used to make the fabric, fades less over time compared to conventional black dye, making the garments last longer.

Triporous shares a vision with A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE, in that “crossing the barriers of genres and connecting with people expands the potential of manufacturing.” TYPE-I is a project that pursues the potential of clothing brought about by the new color created with this material.

A-POC designs the entire process of making clothes, from their creation from a single thread until the point at which they are being worn. In order to develop this kind of responsible manufacturing, A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE continuously thinks about raw materials when creating fabrics. This challenge began after a discussion with Mr. Takayuki Kitahara, a designer leading communication design for Triporous at Sony Group Corporation’s Creative Center, who shares the same perspective on manufacturing. Through this encounter, we found new value in Triporous, which harnesses technology to transform rice husks, that would normally be discarded, into a new material.
TYPE-I features three items that are all easy to incorporate into daily life, comprising a polo shirt, a jacket, and pants with a center crease. The lineup is designed to make the appeals of Triporous part of people’s lives.
The three items in this launch are just the start of the developments with Triporous. Moving forward, we plan to continue to deliver exciting surprises from this “TYPE-I” project.

Triporous
Triporous™ is a new material developed by Sony Group Corporation. It is made from rice husks, a surplus biomass, of which 100 million tons are discarded globally every year. Because it has a combination of micropores, mesopores, and macropores, it can adsorb organic matter of various sizes. As a material characterized by such functions, Triporous is anticipated to have a wide range of applications, such as in the purification of water and air, and contributes to the realization of an environmentally conscious, recycling-oriented society. Triporous FIBER™ applies Triporous in the textile and apparel industries. To learn more about Triporous, please visit the official website.
