The CREATION SPACE at ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA presents a special installation “A Voyage in Descent” from ISSEY MIYAKE.

The ISSEY MIYAKE SPRING SUMMER 2022 collection “A Voyage in Descent” tells a story of diving into the sea and traveling into the depths. It begins with a portrayal of the silence and tranquility first felt in the water, and continuing to the uplifting sensation of making new discoveries in the deep sea.

From among the new clothing inspired by this voyage, this exhibition looks at “LINK RINGS” and “FLUIDITY LOOP” series. LINK RINGS is an all hand-pleated series that represents the collection. Its construction connects round pieces of fabrics evoking ripples on the water, giving rise to a bold and new garment form. It folds along the pleats into a compact size and opens up into ripples one after another when lifted up.Featuring a textured knit fabric inspired by ripples, FLUIDITY LOOP uses a technique called plating in which two colors of yarn are knitted at the same time. It shows one color on the surface and reveals the other underneath when it moves and expands.

This exhibition presents the lightweight, glistening fabric in rings of ripples and the fluid form composed of dynamic curves. Please come and experience a playful voyage to the deep sea through this installation of fabrics and videos.
