2024.07.02 HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE “Ronan Bouroullec: On the Wilds of Creativity”
The CREATION SPACE at ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA presents a special exhibition, “Ronan Bouroullec: On the Wilds of Creativity” by HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE.
The HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Autumn Winter 2024/25 collection looks at the approach behind the creative process—an exploration into the wilds of creativity. Based on this notion, for the first time the brand has engaged in a collaborative project, known as a “creative session”, with designer/artist Ronan Bouroullec.
In this creative session, the brand’s design team immersed itself in the world of Bouroullec’s drawings where it explored elements of color, form, and the movement found in his pen strokes, integrating them into clothes-making. The process of treating Bouroullec’s work—transitioning from observation to active engagement—fosters a dialogue between the drawings and the clothing, suggesting a new form of creative group participation.
Delving into this “dialogue”, this exhibition presents Bouroullec’s work and garments from the collection in the same context to allow the audience to draw comparisons between the two. It also features a video on the dialogue between Bouroullec’s work and the making process of the garments, to explore the process of this creative session.
Through this dialogue, what has become apparent is the dissolving of the boundary between the drawings and the clothing as a new connection is formed—an example of how comprehensive creativity is and can be.
