PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / ROPPONGI reopened after renewals on Tuesday, December 10.

The new store design was created by Nao Tamura, a designer active in New York. Tamura commented, “A single piece of cloth passes through a machine with gradual movement, slowly transforming to have three-dimensional pleats. Watching this process was a truly thrilling moment.”

A diagonal line drawn at a 25° angle from the entrance guides visitors into the store. Along this line, four spaces unfold, each offering a sense of surprise and anticipation for the research and development of PLEATS PLEASE.
These spaces comprise a space for presenting experimental new proposals, a space where materialized products are displayed, a space showcasing concepts that have been developed into forms beyond clothing, and a space where visitors can experience the above.
The store design is inspired by the scenery of the factories where pleats are developed and continue to be carefully crafted one by one, and the manufacturing processes incorporated there.
