2020.02.14 “A Sense of Joy”
The KURA gallery of ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “A Sense of Joy.”
Draw and connect, overlap and dye, swing and extend, move and bounce, and dance and turn.
In September 2019, ISSEY MIYAKE presented its SPRING SUMMER 2020 collection titled A Sense of Joy, where it conveyed the joy people feel when they enjoy the clothes they wear, made possible by the integration of traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. At the show in Paris, the way the models ran, turned, and danced and the way their clothes bounced, swung, and expanded expressed the relationship between the body and the clothes, as the audience was immersed in an ambience of excitement and wonder.
The new designer Satoshi Kondo, with experience at other ISSEY MIYAKE lines like PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE, challenged himself to explore new creative process for his first ISSEY MIYAKE collection, as he engaged with the fundamental concept of “A Piece of Cloth” developed by designer Issey Miyake—to share a joy where people from different regions and of different generations can relate to.
This exhibition presents a video and series of images of the show and the rehearsal, and by doing so it introduces the world the collection created that has fascinated the audience in Paris.
