2025.01.06 | ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO | KURA “TYPE-IX Synflux project”
The KURA gallery at ISSEY MIYAKE KYOTO presents KURA Exhibition “TYPE-IX Synflux project”
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE first unveiled the TYPE-IX Synflux project, a collaboration with the design laboratory Synflux, in Paris in 2024. This future-oriented project explores new potential for clothing design by combining algorithms and A-POC’s specialized technologies.
Utilizing cutting-edge digital technology, Synflux, which aims to overhaul fashion design, has developed and operates Algorithmic Couture, a new design system that utilizes geometry and algorithms for the purpose of reducing textile waste generated in clothing manufacturing processes.
Using A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE’s TYPE-U jacket made from shape memory material as a base, we conducted vast numbers of simulations in a process of trial and error using Algorithmic Couture. The final result was an optimized pattern made from a single piece of cloth, with minimum fabric scraps achieved through computer calculations. The completed jacket design can be divided into and reconstructed from several parts.
This exhibition will display each of the divided parts, the woven piece of cloth, and the completed jacket. Visitors will also see footage recording the collaboration process with Synflux. This is a co-creation between AI and humans, born from a dialogue woven between sophisticated algorithms and human hands. The new potential of creativity that this project displays quietly asks the question of how, together with technology, we will spin the future of clothing.
