The CUBE at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 presents an exhibition, “Amid Impasto of Horizons” by HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE.

Traveling through Italy with a paintbrush in hand, the HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE Spring Summer 2026 collection, Amid Impasto of Horizons, originated from the process of gathering colors in each city along the journey.

As the design team wandered from city to suburb, they observed scenes of everyday life and drew inspiration for the collection’s color palette, rooted in its urban landscape—the color of the ticket vending machine at a train station, the colors of vegetables at a local market, and the different shades of blue of the sea.

This exhibition presents the fieldwork conducted by the team, along with studio studies and experiments translating the inspiration into garments, juxtaposed with a series of sculptural explorations of the brand’s original pleating technology. Through actions like pulling, wrapping, and folding, the sculptural work reveals qualities and expressions unseen before in the familiar material. While seemingly in contrast with garments from the collection, these explorations are part of an ongoing, organic research process that lends itself to new forms of “everyday wear”.

In the practice of design and making, there are moments of chance and unpredictability. Traces of the team’s engagement in this practice—its experimental and progressive nature—are encapsulated in layers, depicted vividly here in this exhibition.
