2024.09.02 A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE “TYPE-VIII Kenta Umemoto project”
The CUBE at ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 445 presents an exhibition, “TYPE-VIII Kenta Umemoto project” by A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE.
Kenta Umemoto is a photographer based in Paris. With a distinctive use of color inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e and manga, he employs an original method using both digital and manual processes to skillfully use light and shadow to pursue new photographic expression. In his representative work FLŌRA, he captures the beauty of vibrant flowers, as if they were portrait photos. This visual art intersects painting and photography, awakening new imaginings for those who enjoy experiencing the random beauty of nature.
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE began this project after resonating with the creation via the interplay of intentionality and randomness in Umemoto’s work. The visuals from the new photographs of the “FLŌRA” series, which engages with flowers as a universal symbol of beauty, were reconstructed on dresses and jumpsuits using bold compositions. The A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE brand’s unique Steam Stretch technique was used to create a patchwork-like arrangement of vertical and horizontal pleats on the items. Umemoto’s visuals were then transferred onto the items using a heat press process, expressing a sense of accidental beauty. The intricate textures, akin to floral veins, resonate with the body when worn, embodying lively beauty.
This exhibition will boldly display dynamic visual arts of dresses and jumpsuits with striking contrasts of light and shadow, alongside the “FLŌRA” series. We invite you to experience the creativity of A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE with Mr. Umemoto, who is always exploring new forms of expression without being bound by existing frameworks.
