2023.04.04 me ISSEY MIYAKE “REmeTEX”
The ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA at CUBE presents a installation “REmeTEX” from me ISSEY MIYAKE.
“REmeTEX” is an initiative by me ISSEY MIYAKE to use the scraps from the clothes-making process as resources to transform into new clothes. Using a technique known as “Hanmou” (recycled wool), the scraps are converted back into cotton, which is then re-spun into yarn and made into woven fabric. For the first project, the Hanmou technique was used for scraps from the me ISSEY MIYAKE brand’s representative “stretch pleats” to create “REmeTEX DENIM,” denim items that are perfect for daily life. The new textile shows glimpses of the prints and colors of the original fabric, meaning that each item has a different look.
The exhibition space is decorated with a motif of colorful strips of cloth, and enables visitors to clearly understand and experience the manufacturing background of "REmeTEX.” The exhibition is filled with the unique fun and playfulness of me ISSEY MIYAKE.
