KASURI

This coat is from a series that offers a modern expression of the traditional Kasuri dyeing technique, in which a single thread is partially dyed separately to create uneven shading. Three types of cotton threads of varying thicknesses are dyed separately using the Chusen method, then arranged as warp and weft threads and woven on a jacquard loom. To highlight the beauty of the weave, cuts are kept to a minimum, while zippers are arranged from the hem to the sides. When zipped up, the sleeves and main part of the coat form a gentle spiral shape. When unzipped and fastened with buttons, the coat can also be worn as a poncho.
